TIME OFF
The Working Stiffs get it!
“Friends getting together to play music is fun. You can hear these guys are having a ball, chugging along with “Little 59” or closing the bar with “You Can’t Stay here”. This CD makes me want to join a band. ~ John Bohlinger
IMPRESSIVE
I just listened to these guys and I was really impressed! With a unique sound and style they really hit their stride by track 7 “HANG,” my personal favorite. Listen to the power around 3:00! You just knew it was coming! Great to sit back and reflect on. Then on to bluesy “where it hurts” and you get your feet back on the ground! Check it out, you won’t be disappointed! ~ A Blue Smoothie
OUTSTANDING
This album is a very unique blend of rock and jazz that reflects the inspiration of some extraordinarily talented musician’s. Kick back, listen and enjoy. ~ Rick Klettke
POUR A BROWN BEVERAGE, PUT YOUR FEED UP AND YOU’LL FIND …
yourself immersed in your own life’s story. Lyrics that will trigger memories. Lyrics that will put you in that bar, with that woman and in that situation. All wrapped up in an aromatic delivery with subtle “steely dan” undertones and an occasional “santana” overtone. Solid blues and jazz riffs woven throughout. You can tell these guys have history and a lot of fun practicing their art. Lead singer sounds like he smokes too much … but in a quirky kind of way it adds to the feeling that you heard them play in your local tavern on that night … with that woman. ~ Bill Arnold
STIFF COMPETITION
Catch the Working Stiffs at a local club or one of Rose City’s parks on a breezy summer night, and you’ll discover what many Portlanders already know: these guys are in a class of their own. The Stiffs play honest rock n’ roll charged with just the right mix of soul, jazz and witty, unpretentious songwriting. “Time Off” captures this delivery to great effect, melding danceable grooves with unexpected riffs and spot-on, off-kilter lyrics that would make Warren Zevon proud. Stand out tracks include Lucky Day, Laugh Lines, and The Bag. ~ El Comandante
LOVE THIS BAND! LOVE THIS RECORD!
As a musician, I hold these guys in high regard. The record has the feel of good friends doing what they love to do. Very comfortable but yet complex enough to hold interest. The lead singer shows he has great chops, but he’s not in your face every minute with it. I really have to agree with the review Bill Arnold wrote. He said it way better than I did. Buy it. ~ Jack Malone
TSUNAMI TSESSIONS
When 5:00 PM rolls around, punch out and put on the Stiffs. ~ Andy (Portland, OR)
My favorite track off this album are “I Couldn’t Buy.” ~ Meredith
A fun little gem. ~ Jim (Erie, PA)
Track one got me to turn on my guitar and play along. Track five got me dancing … ~ John (Medford, OR)
Great piece of work. Can’t get the second track out of my mind. Insightful lyrics. ~ Paul (Detroit, MI)
